Hot Springs State Park

Thermopolis is home to the world's largest mineral hot springs. There is a small state park with a bison herd. We went looking for them in a small thunderstorm then were treated to this amazing rainbow. (We found the bison, but they were a long way off.)

Legend Rock Pictograph Site

A red dot on our map that we decided to detour to see. It's in a dry and fairly flat area so we were skeptical at first. Once we drove into the site we saw a rock wall with dozens of pictographs. And- we were not the only ones there! 

We had to make up our own interpretations fo the images. There were numbered signs, but no brochures to explain them!

The Shoshone River, Cody, Wyoming

We found this lovely picnic spot along the river. We were grateful for the nice covering as it started to rain. Thunderstorms on and off all day!

Dead Indian Pass

Named for the wounded Nez Pierce who was left here and then killed by the US Soldiers. The views are incredible!

Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone River

This breathtaking spot along the Chief Joseph highway crosses a 300-foot deep canyon over the river. Apparently, Clack explored here and then the Nez Piece used the canyon as a way to escape the US soldiers who were in pursuit. We have been following the Nez Pierce trail for about a week and visited some of the other sites on our 2015 trip (Big Hole National Battlefield).

Lake Creek Falls

The old road went much closer to the bridge over the falls. Now it's a walking path. Like many of the waterways here it is raging and sits deep in a canyon. This place is wild!
